Ted Sallade

Ted joined Poseidon Swimming in the spring of 1993. Throughout his career, Coach Sallade has enjoyed success coaching swimmers at all levels—from the beginning swimmer to USA Olympic Trials qualifiers. He holds a Business Administration degree from Virginia Commonwealth University, and is a four-time Virginia Swimming Coach of the Year recipient. Ted is a certified Level 5 coach with the American Swimming Coaches Association, and contributes over 30 years of experience as an athlete and coach to the Poseidon organization. Coach Sallade currently supports Virginia Swimming as a member of the senior committee, and previously served as Coaches Representative to the Virginia Swimming Board of Directors, Virginia delegate to USA Swimming and coaching staff member of numerous Eastern Zones teams. Ted’s athletes have recorded numerous National Top 16 performances, including number one rankings, National records, many qualifiers to Junior Nationals, USA Senior Nationals, USA Olympic Trials. Ted has placed  an athlete on several USA National Teams and was selected Head Men's Coach for the 2009 USA Swimming National Select Camp. Ted engages with the coaches and athletes at all levels within the team while directing the training of Poseidon’s Senior II and III. Ted and his wife Joanna have two boys—Joss and Cooper.

Mike Julian

Michael relocated to Richmond in September 2001 from Greenville, North Carolina. Coach Julian, a four-year letterman and 1998-1999 CAA Scholar Athlete Award recipient at East Carolina University, holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise and Sports Science. While in North Carolina Michael was a volunteer assistant at East Carolina University as well as Head Age Group Coach for the local USA team. He completed his Masters in Recreation at Virginia Commonwealth University. Since his arrival, Coach Julian has produced USA Swimming Top 16 athletes and Virginia Swimming State Champions and is certified Level 3 with the American Swimming Coaches Association. Michael has worked as a Chesterfield County substitute teacher, served as Head Coach for the Briarwood summer swim team and has supported Virginia Swimming on the Eastern Zones coaching staff. Coach Julian is responsible for the organization and direction of Poseidon Swimming’s Age Group programs.  Mike coaches Age Group Silver and Gold.  Michael, his wife Julie, and 4 children reside in Chesterfield County.

Steven R Evans

Steven joined Poseidon in 2010 following a stint at the College of  William and Mary as varsity assistant.  Steven holds a BS degree in Kinesiology from James Madison University with a concentration in Sports and Recreation Management. Coach Evans directs Poseidon's developmental groups Blue and Junior and has served Virginia Swimming as a member of the Zone coaching staff.  Steven is the Head Coach for Charter Colony summer team, brings enthusiasm and excitement to the Poseidon family and will be involved with every aspect of the team. 

Mark L. Van Deren

Mark Van Deren is the newest member of the Poseidon Coaching Staff. Mark has over 12 years of successful coaching experience at the Age Group level and joins us after a two year stint leading a resurgence of 12 and under athletes as Head Age Group Coach with Coast Guard Blue Dolphins. He was the Head Age Group Coach with Tide Swim Team in Virginia Beach from 2005 to 2008 and with Typhoon Aquatics in Newport News from 2001 to 2005. Mark’s swimmers have won at every level of competition, broken state records, achieved national rankings, and earned Swimmer of the Year honors. Mark has served as the Head Coach for the Virginia Swimming Zones Team in 2011 and 2012. He holds a B.S. in Physical Education with a Sport Management emphasis from Old Dominion University where he was a member of the varsity swim team and a conference finalist. Mark also spent 2 years as a teacher in the Newport News public school system. Mark will be coaching the White and Age Group Bronze groups this season. Mark and his wife, Emily have 2 boys Jackson and Brady.
