| AG Update 1/18 |

News and Notes: Thanks for being patient while we update our website. I think that it looks great and it allows us to do things that we haven't been able to do before. When I figure it out, expect to see a lot of links to a lot of stuff that will help you in your understanding of this sport/way of life we know as swimming. I can't thank everyone enough for their generosity over the past few months. It has been a little rough getting used to two babies, but Joy and I are very appreciative of everybody's help and encouragement. Our family here at Poseidon would clearly do anything for us, even if it meant risking their own health (thanks Maria and Cynthia...I hope the worst of the virus has passed). SPLASH-4-CASH is here! I'm ready to dish out some incentives to keep the AG Varsity and the Advanced group at the top of the heap. Here we go...if you can get 10 sponsors and $200 (and proof) on Monday, then you can join the float lane. We'll break out the foam noodles and let you guys hit the slow lane, for once. Once you hit that bench mark, I'll be working on another one for the next week...so don't be afraid to go above and beyond. Remember, 100% participation (yes JUST participating) gets your hands on some clippers with my scalp on the other end! I need a pretty hair-do for Regional A/BB...make it happen. CHAMPS meets are on their way. Here's a good rule of thumb to figure out which CHAMPS meets you should attend (when in doubt, e-mail your coach): District B/C Champs (NOVA; Feb 16-18): ANY and ALL B/C times for 14 and unders. Even if you have never swum an event, that meet is a great meet to do it. Regional A/BB Champs (Lynchburg; Feb 23-25): ANY and ALL time that are above BB and under the Age-Group Champs cut for 14 and younger. 15 and olders can swim any times under the Senior Champs cut (including B/C swims...new this year). If a swimmer has 6+ events for AG or SR champs already, he or she should consider talking to the coach to determine the individual rationalle for swimming the meet (maybe just pick 1 or 2 days). REMINDER: Friday's sessions are just as important as every other...plan to swim on Friday! REMINDER: 13 and olders only score points in finals...plan to stay for finals on Sunday night! If this is your season culiminating meet, you need to treat it like the Super Bowl, not just another meet. REMINDER: If you qualify for the next level meet...already have plans to attend. Senior Champs (UVA; Mar 8-11): ANY times that meet the State Senior Champs cuts. 14 and youngers in AG will be asked to swim one day of the meet, and probably be asked to swim in a time trial. Age-Group Champs (Midtown and Ft. Eustis; Mar 15-18): ANY times that meet the Sate Age-Group Champs cut. Even one cut is reason enough to swim. The meet is closer than it has been in the past, so that should allow us to bring ALL qualifiers to the meet. The 13 and olders will be swimming their prelims at Midtown. The 12 and youngers will be swimming prelims at Ft Eustis. We will all come together at Midtown for the finals, top-8 relays, and the Thursday night session. ONE BIG REMINDER FOR ALL: WEAR YOUR POSEIDON GEAR at meets. This is part of your team uniform. It shows pride in your association with your team. It shows your respect for what you have accomplished along with the efforts of you teammates. To be united, you must look the part.
