| Senior Champs 08! |
|
The published results of a competitive weekend do not disclose the great spirit of a team or the camaraderie of its members. If you had the pleasure of attending the latest version of Senior Champs in Charlottesville you gain understanding why Poseidon has FUN while swimming FAST. Lots of laughter accompanied lots of great swims was the standard at every session. Coach Allison showed how to joyfully compete with a will to succeed as our team area exploded when she grabbed a second place finish in the 50 Free! Locked in an entertaining battle for second place on Sunday night and third by 23 points heading into the final session, our troops rose the occasion time and time again finishing in a tie for second overall. Teamwork was essential and Michael noted that in his time with the team he could not remember another night of relay excellence that could match Poseidon's Sunday night relay efforts. With all the excellent swims on the weekend we surpassed last year's total (12) notching 17 individual Junior National qualifiers. Kate Kessler, Shelby Randall, Brian Fischetti, Chris Borysewicz, Sam Rairden, Josh Armantrout and Alex Aceino all first time Junior National qualifiers earned a trip to Orlando. We were very pleased with the development of our younger athletes with two young ladies standing out with their performances. Robin Endsley made her mark with 100% best time performance and narrowly missed joining the others in Florida posting a 2:24.91 200 breast effort in tying for 9th overall. Not to be outdone was Meredith Drummond with tremendous time drops in her distance events and the 200 Breast as well. Ryan McDonnald, Matthew Latimer, Stephan Wingen and Alex Parrish recorded major drops and appear ready to make the push towards Juniors in the near future. Leah Webber joins Robin and Meredith when they represent VSI as members of the Zone team in Buffalo at the end of the month. We had so many outstanding efforts that this one coach could not sleep when arriving home due to the excitement of future possibilities. Please check the real time results on Virginia Swimming web site to review Poseidon accomplishments. Congratulations to all! |
