Whenever you wonder if anything is possible... At the end of our weekend in-season competition at Mid Town a voice proposed a mighty challenge to the group. "Chuck E Cheese" rang out and the charge was on. Taking inspiration from an outstanding effort of mental preparedness Poseidon swimmers dominated the 200 IM our final individual event of the weekend touching first in all but a few heats in commanding fashion. Everyone was pumped with excitement as positive energy contagiously motivated tired bodies towards over the top performances. Yes, the group made a mighty charge closing the gap to but a few points in the Poseidon heat winner competition. Yes, our athletes benefited from a motivational thought which was above the norm at mid season training meets. "Yes I can" replaced all the rest of the emotional responses to fatigue and created "THE" reason for the moment. One individual's positive attitude influenced the entire group. Impressive! You bet! Positive energy will grow and expand just as a small stream gains energy as the volume of water grows following a rain storm transforming a mild flow into a force that may move earth, trees, refrigerators, cars and yes, even an occasional cow! Our training efforts certainly are providing expected competitive outcomes as the weekend was packed full with outstanding efforts. I was particularly pleased with the 800 free relay competitors as TEAM POSEIDON created an excitement which assisted all. Next? December meets at Hargrave and GMU. By now everyone should know which venue that you will be visiting. Mark and Mike will be traveling to Hargrave and I will attend the Tom Dolan meet. Both of these events are team travel. We have chaperones covered for TD and are looking for several for the Hargrave event. Where do we go from here? Commitment: Personally train at a higher level focusing on technique with dry-land and stroke mechanics. Remember that you will only perform under stress during the race the way that you prepare to race during your daily training sessions. Commitment: To encouraging your team mates each set every day towards fasters swimming and positive commitment. Commitment: Maintain more appropriate dietary practices making the best choices for snacks and beverages, replenishing your energy with lots of H2O, fruits, vegetables and your recovery items after EVERY practice session. Commitment: Remain proactive in your studies so that you may attend your sessions. Commitment: Rest outside the pool and remember your goals when you have to make a choice between enhancing your athletic career or dancing the night away! FIRE UP POSEIDON - mid season focus is upon us ... The JOURNEY CONTINUES! |
